My Baby Boy

8/10/23 - My baby boy is a sweetheart. Oh, he has his moods, but he is a good boy and I couldn’t be prouder to have him as a son. If I may paraphrase the late Tom Petty, “He's a good boy, loves his mama / Loves Jesus and America too”. He’s always been that way. Just a shy, sweet kid that follows the rules and isn’t afraid to show affection towards his parents. My baby boy is 20 years old and just learned he likely has a brain tumor.

8/10/23 - Rocky Road’s not just an ice cream filled with marshmallows and walnuts. It’s the beginning of this story; my sons journey and battle with an apparent brain tumor. About a week ago, he began vomiting. Anything he put down came back up. A trip to the urgent care resulted in some anti-viral drugs. The next day, he complained of severe headaches, and the vomiting hadn’t really let up. A trip to the ER netted him a rehydration, some pain meds,  and more anti-virals. Another trip to his doctor and more of the same. Finally, when the vomiting returned and the headaches came back with avengence, he and his mother returned to the very busy ER. They arrived around 4 pm on Thursdsay, were admitted around midnight, and after some cajoling, a CT scan was performed. By 2:30 am we learned a  high density contrast was observed, approximately 2.7x4.0x3.0 cm. When I arrived at 3 AM, I found them both slumped in chairs awaiting an actual bed.  It was a rough start.
